In case you haven’t guessed yet, I spent last weekend in Switzerland, more specifically in a town called Vevey. The weather was glorious. Each night, I sat on the balcony of our friend’s gorgeous lakeside apartment. Let me set the scene: white swans gliding over the black waters of Lake Geneva (in French, Lac Léman), me sipping a chilled local wine and tick-tacking away on my computer as sheet lightning illuminates the snow capped mountains. Bliss, I tell you, pure and simple.
I visited this town last year, known as a pearl of the Swiss Riveria, and ever since I’ve been captivated by its beauty and vibe. So much so that I am actually considering moving there. More on that line of thinking later, but for now let me show you a brief glimpse of one of my favourite places I’ve ever been.
Now I ask you, wouldn’t you want to walk here …
on your way to this …
where you can load up your basket here …
and here …
Then, after the market you can meander back through streets that look like this …
and this …
And then walk off into the sunset with your favourite person in the world …
Looks pretty good doesn’t it? To me it’s paradise and I’m fixin’ to see if I’ll be finding me in Vevey soon. Much thinking and drinking must be undertaken to deal with this dilemma. Next time I’ll think out loud and you can all try and talk me out of this madness. But first, tell me, if you had the chance to live here, would you take it?
yes, yes, Yes. I have just come back to Aussie from three weeks in Ireland (Son lives there) and I would love to move to Europe for a while and here (where you are) looks spell-bindingly beautiful.
Im with you Linda, my son lives in UK (im in Aus). Thats to far away.
Tell me about it. I manage to get to Ireland from Aussie about every 18 months or so. I just want to go live there for a while. I vote we just move in with Debbi – just joking Debbi, don’t panic!
It’s magic! I went through on the train and wanted to get off many times! Seize the day!
Do it Bobbi! Thinking it may inspire more witty writings and besides, gives us another place to live in vicariously through you!
Sign me up! Any jobs there for an person of my ilk? Cripes I’m ready to leave today!
“A change is as good as a rest” my wise mother often says….go for it !
Do they polish their eggplants at that market ??
When I was a student, I took one course in Lausanne before spending the rest of the year in Aix-en-Provence. My memories of Vevey and the other stops along the train route are still magical to me. So absolutely yes, I would go if I were you. Finding Me in Vevey! Bring it!
if it’s good enough for charlie chaplin…..
Yes you should . Is this heaven?
I actually picked those colours for my bedroom. The colours in the second last picture….. but it is no Vevey.
You have the prefect life Bobbi. Do it.
Personally I prefer small towns and villages. And since I’m such a francophile, once I had pulled up my roots and moved to France, no way would I be leaving it. Too much hassle, and too nice to find my niche and stay in it. Of course, we’ve lived on our little riverside farm for almost forty years now; we tend to find a place we like and then spend our time perfecting it and developing strong ties and friendships. Obviously that’s not for everyone, though!
Bobboi your pics and writings are truly fabulous!!
Please send the weather this way. In nfld today it’s a balmy 2 degrees. I told my son to wear his winter coat to school, if he doesn’t he may get hypothermia!!!:)
So, so beautiful—even the eggplants are stunning.
I see a new book on the horizon – Finding Me in Switzerland!
Yes, definitely move! Why not…you haven’t moved houses in a couple of months and it would make finding the title for your second book so much easier, “Now, you’ll find me in Switerland”.
Embrace the wonderful momentum you have for your life! If you pause too long, rational thinking will pervail…
Heather
Ask yourself this…….”Would I be able to live with myself if I didn’t take this opportunity”?
Here’s a reality check for you…..I was all pumped because I’m to to St. john’s for a few days and was REALLY looking forward to a trip to Costco!!!! I’d say you just made up your mind……..ha ha
Cheers
“Green with Envy” Kathleen
I didn’t realize how green I could become, and not the naive shade.
Are those eggplant?! I’d move there for the veggies alone!
Is the pope Catholic? I’d be there in a heart beat!
K. Now Bobbi, I don’t like to be critical. But. You have not exactly come through on the promise to reveal more if you got some reviews on Amazon. And you have already admitted you got your reviews. Unless the plan is to relocate full stop. However, methinks the plan is to relocate and something else? No weighing in until you pony up the deets.
More deets on Friday. But no big news I’m afraid.
I’m going to assume you don’t have time to read our responses because you’re too busy packing for the move!
Next project: Finding Me in Switzerland. See how easy that was?
Those are the most beautiful eggplants I’ve seen in my entire life. I volunteer to move there to be the daily eggplant shiner.
now that you are a successful author, might you need a research asst?
please?
(please, please, please–will work for gorgeous views, waterside walks and shiny bright eggplants)
Wonder where that heavenly market goes in the dead of winter? Re moving, home is where you are with the one you love. So if you can stand the packing (shudder), au revoir!
Bobbie, actually I think you could make almost anyplace in the world look desirable, assuming you had Neil taking those photos……
Actually I took the Vevey pictures, Neil was too busy drooling over vegetables…
I would definitely take the chance. What’s life but one big adventure! I say GO FOR IT!!!!!!
Go now, go fast, go strong! Just go… You have many Finding Me’s to do, I see this now!
I tried looking to see if I could see your reflection in those eggplants. They’re shinier than my neighbor’s bald head! Yes, I’d move in a heartbeat!
Maybe you’re right. Water plus mountains. What am I doing in earthquaked Italy??
AH, THE LIFESTYLES OF THE RICH AND FAMOUS!
You’ll really do anything to avoid the french driving exam.
Yes, yes, yes! Do it for all of us who can’t!
I think you know the answer to your question …
For me, the question would be: Do the men pee in the streets there? If the answer was “no”, I’d be there inside a day :)
Um, YES. Who wouldn’t move there? God, I miss being next to the sea. Or any type of water for that matter.
Move there, girl. Move there.
