For a year now I’ve been wondering what the house across the way is all about, wondering what treasures were hidden behind the green door.

So when I found an announcement in my mailbox that said that very door would be open for the weekend, I was off like a shot. I walked through and here’s what was waiting for me…

Monsieur Yves Lemarchand, Semur based sculptor and artist offering an open house at his studio.

Yves has been sculpting for many years and has had many shows over the years here in France. He has funky pieces all over his property like this one…

And speaking of property, I was stunned to find his magnificent garden tucked away from prying eyes like mine…

We sat in the upper courtyard and ate cake and chocolate surrounded by art and the lovely Lemarchands and some more folks from the Rue. Who wouldn’t be inspired to create something from nothing in such a marvelous setting? France is full of incredible finds tucked discreetly behind locked doors.

Of course this being invited as opposed to my usual strategy of scaling stone walls and skulking about trying to catch a glimpse of what is clearly meant to be private is likely a better way to do things. Thank god the invitation came when it did. I was worn out trying to sneak my way into his garden. So classy me.
